Marsico to Host House Judiciary Committee Public Hearing on Online Impersonation

WHAT: House Judiciary Committee’s Chairman Ron Marsico (R-Dauphin) will be hosting a hearing to discuss Rep. Kathy Watson’s (R-Bucks) House Bill 2249, which would create a new offense in Pennsylvania’s laws for online impersonation. The bill states that a person commits the offense of online impersonation if he/she uses another person’s name, persona or identifying information without obtaining the other person’s consent and with the intent to deceive, harm, defraud, intimidate or threaten anyone.

WHO: Marsico; Watson; Minority Chairman Thomas Caltagirone (D-Berks); other members of the committee. Among those offering testimony will be David Heckler, Bucks County district attorney; Andy Hoover, legislative director for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU); Jeff Stein, president of the Pennsylvania Association of Licensed Investigators; Barbara W. Thompson, secretary and acting treasurer of the Pennsylvania Association of Licensed Investigators; Dr. Justin Y. Shi, associate professor in Computer and Information Sciences at Temple University; Josephine Paskevicius, victim of online impersonation; and Vincent Guarna, family member of victim of online impersonation.
