Marsico to Host House Judiciary Committee Public Hearing on Online Impersonation
: House Judiciary Committee’s Chairman Ron Marsico (R-Dauphin) will be hosting a hearing to discuss Rep. Kathy Watson’s (R-Bucks) House Bill 2249, which would create a new offense in Pennsylvania’s laws for online impersonation. The bill states that a person commits the offense of online impersonation if he/she uses another person’s name, persona or identifying information without obtaining the other person’s consent and with the intent to deceive, harm, defraud, intimidate or threaten anyone.

Among those offering testimony will be David Heckler, Bucks County district attorney; Andy Hoover, legislative director for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU); Jeff Stein, president of the Pennsylvania Association of Licensed Investigators; Barbara W. Thompson, secretary and acting treasurer of the Pennsylvania Association of Licensed Investigators; Dr. Justin Y. Shi, associate professor in Computer and Information Sciences at Temple University; Josephine Paskevicius, victim of online impersonation; and Vincent Guarna, family member of victim of online impersonation.
